Yesterday, my best friend called.
We hadn’t talked in a while, so we caught up on everything—life, work, and all the messy stuff in between.

At one point, she said something that nearly made me choke on my coffee:

“It’s like everything just works out for you. Like fate handed you the perfect life on a silver platter.”

If only.

I told her the truth:
Life’s not easy. It’s not smooth. And it’s definitely not perfectly planned.

But that’s kind of the beauty of it.

Because when you zoom out, life isn’t about fate—it’s about choice.

Every “yes” and “no.”
Every risk you take (or don’t).
Every moment you decide to show up anyway, even when it’s not perfect.

That’s what shapes who we become.

I chose this school instead of that one.
This job over the “safe” one.
I chose to start a family at 25 instead of waiting.

And every one of those choices—some good, some messy—built the life I have now.

Even not choosing is still a choice.

And calligraphy?
It works the same way.

Every time you pick up your pen—or don’t—you’re making a choice.

Maybe you’ve always wanted to try but keep waiting for the “perfect moment.”
Maybe you’ve started, but your letters look shaky, so you stop.
Maybe you compare yourself to others and think, “I’ll never be that good.”

But here’s the secret:
It’s never about perfection.

It’s about showing up.
Putting ink on paper.
Letting the process teach you something new about yourself.

Because every stroke is a decision to begin again.
